Golden

While in NYC this weekend, we decided to do our best not to spend $$ shopping for clothes, shoes, the like and instead treated ourselves to manicures, eyebrow threading (my first time & I'm sold!), and makeup (discussed here).

Well Marissa's birthday is on the 26th and she was turning 26 = a gold themed birthday. The champagne birthday so I've been told. And in honor of Marissa's golden bash, I decided to trade in my shellac manicure for a gold one. Although I never took photos of my shellac manicure 2 weeks in, it was still in pretty great condition. And thankfully, the process of having it removed was not as terrible as I was expecting either.

But now I think I've found a new love. Yup, I am absolutely loving the gold manicure I opted for. There's something about it that just makes me happy & I will definitely consider gold nails in the future now. Gold nails & fake eyelashes?! Yikes, what is happening to me? :)

Would you consider a metallic manicure?

MAC Makeup

This weekend while in NYC, a few of us decided to get our makeup done at MAC. At the MAC stand-alone stores you can get your makeup done for $50. Not too bad I guess, but at the MAC counter at Macy's, you're makeup can be done for free. Now, that's more like it.

I should clarify to say that if you'd like your whole face done up, you do need an appointment and it's actually $75. But, if you're like me, and don't really wear face makeup anyways, you can get eyes done for free.

I am always amazed at how eye makeup turns out when done by a makeup artist. I've learned a few tricks through the years that I put to use when we go out on the weekends but I never feel like my eyes stand out as much as I'd like them to. I always feel like I have a decent amount of makeup on, but its not that noticeable in photos. Well, to me at least.

Here's an awkward photos of me & my done up makeup...

I've used MAC in the past for makeup too. They are so reliable. For our one-year anniversary, J & I had reservations at the restaurant we went to the night he proposed. I figured it would be fun to sneak a nice dress, etc to work and get all dolled up before meeting up with him. Getting my makeup done was a last minute decision. But I am so glad I did it! Ever since our wedding, I love fake eyelashes. I know, weird, right? But I just loved the way they looked that day and would never try to put them on myself. So, I now rely on MAC for that.

Here's how they did my makeup for dinner with J -

Umm, notice the difference in my hair?! The water in NYC made my hair so soft and silky....but also a bit flat! The water in San Francisco does this to my hair too. So strange. Oh and don't mind my pale February skin above - yikes!

Back to the subject of this post though..... to be respectful of their time when getting my makeup done, I try to purchase at least one of the products they're using, and eyelashes do count for that. They'll run you about $15 there. I love their products and consider it a way to slowly build my own collection though. My latest purchase? Concealer. Definitely had flashbacks of watching my mom put makeup on as a child when they dotted concealer under my eyes! :)  But, it did make a difference, and I was sold.

What'd ya think?!

A Taste of NYC

I am quite exhausted from this weekend's trip to NYC. This trip focused on good friends and  good food. And I really don't want to look at my bank account after this weekend.... Here's a taste. :)

New York, New York

Finally, this weekend has arrived! I will be heading to NYC for the weekend and I cannot wait!

My old roommate Marissa is living proof that hard work and determination pay off. Over a year ago she decided it was time for her to fulfill her dream of living in NYC. She let all of her contacts know via email that she was interested in finding a job in New York and passed along her resume. Long story short, another old roommates mom was able to connect her with a contact in NYC and though I'm not sure if she ended up with that exact job, she's know been in NYC for almost a year and has a great job! I am so proud of her for this. And  yet, I haven't seen her since she moved! Gah!

So, as this weekend happens to be her birthday weekend, we are heading South to celebrate! If there's one thing we're pretty good about doing, it's getting together for each others birthdays.

These girls made me laugh til I cried, dance til my feet hurt so bad I'd have to walk home barefoot, watch a million movies (i hate movies), drink obscene amounts of wine weekly, eat chinese food from the takeout containers just to be able to say we did it, and of course make me want to pull my hair out at times. But I love them, and was thankful to have 4 great years of memories throughout college with them.

Here' are the 4 of us meeting up this weekend (pic taken Sophomore yr of college)...

And out celebrating Marissa's birthday last year in Boston...
We'll miss you Corey!

Adios!
